STUDENT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

“Looking into the music behind video games and dissecting why that music was chosen is not something most people get the chance to do. Taking a score, breaking it down into its rudimentary elements and then relating to them to the images depicted on screen is like solving a sudoku puzzle: it isn’t easy at first, but after a while you get the hang of it.

The opportunities may lead you to a paper, a mini-conference, or a presentation at a national conference such as MusCan or NACVGM. Presenting at a conference is an incredible opportunity, as it is no longer just you uploading a paper for someone to read: it is the author reading it aloud to a room full of interested minds.

A research opportunity isn’t easy; it comes with its challenges and it definitely pushes you outside of your comfort zone. That being said, this is an incredible chance to combine one’s love of video games with their passion for music.”
